The Village of Saranac Lake is developing a conceptual master plan to explore housing opportunities at the Village-owned sandpit property near Will Rogers Drive.

The approximately 10-acre property offers an opportunity to evaluate how Village-owned land could help address local needs while respecting the surrounding neighborhood and supporting the broader community.

Evaluating the Property

The property currently serves as the Village’s sandpit and a location for winter snow storage. Planning for a potential future use includes evaluating existing municipal operations, terrain, wetlands, access, water and sewer infrastructure, and stormwater management.

Preliminary Concepts

Four preliminary site concepts explore different approaches to housing and site layout, including single-family homes, townhomes or duplex-style housing, a combination of housing types, and an apartment building.

These concepts provide a starting point for discussion and further evaluation. Community feedback, technical analysis, and feasibility considerations will help refine the concepts into a single, achievable plan to inform the Village’s next steps.

Public Workshop: October 15, 2026

Residents are invited to review the concepts, ask questions, identify concerns, and share ideas at an upcoming public workshop.
