Riverwalk

The Saranac Lake Riverwalk is a public pedestrian pathway that follows portions of the Saranac River through downtown and nearby neighborhoods. The approximately one-mile round-trip walkway provides residents and visitors with convenient access to the Village’s waterfront, downtown businesses, public spaces, and community destinations.

The Riverwalk features a combination of brick-paved pathways, bridges, riverfront views, seating areas, landscaping, and pedestrian connections throughout the downtown area.

The Riverwalk connects users to:

  • Downtown shops and restaurants
  • Public parks and gathering spaces
  • Parking areas and municipal facilities
  • Waterfront access points
  • Community events and destinations

The pathway is accessible from multiple locations, including the Dorsey Street parking area and Church Street.

Accessibility

The Riverwalk includes accessible entry points at both ends of the corridor:

  • Behind the municipal parking area near Main Street via an accessible ramp
  • Along Church Street where the sidewalk connects directly to the parking area

Additional curb cuts and pedestrian crossings are located throughout the Riverwalk corridor to improve accessibility and connectivity.

The Riverwalk continues to serve as an important public space and community asset within the Village of Saranac Lake.

Saranac Lake is home to a variety of public spaces, recreational facilities, waterfront areas, and community landmarks that contribute to the character and identity of the Village.

The Village Gems section highlights destinations and public assets that support recreation, tourism, community events, outdoor activity, and quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

These spaces reflect the Village’s Adirondack setting, history, and ongoing investment in public infrastructure and community amenities.
