The Village of Saranac Lake Development Board is a five-member board appointed by the Mayor with approval of the Village Board of Trustees. The Development Board is responsible for reviewing and making decisions on land use and development applications in accordance with the Village's Development Code and New York State Law.
The Development Board reviews:
- site plans
- special use permits,
- area variances,
- use variances, and
- certain subdivision applications.
It also hears appeals of administrative decisions and provides recommendations on land use planning, zoning regulations, and the village's future growth.
Through its review process, the Development Board considers how proposed projects comply with village regulations and address important factors such as site design, infrastructure, public safety, environmental impacts, and neighborhood character.
The Development Board conducts its business through public meetings and hearings, as required by law, providing opportunities for applicants and community members to participate in the development review process.
Applications and Development Review
The village provides administrative support for the Development Board, including application intake, coordination of reviews, meeting preparation, public notices, and maintenance of official records.
