The Community Development Department is responsible for a diverse set of programs that help make Saranac Lake a special place for locals to live and a remarkable place for visitors.

About

The Community Development Department works to drive economic prosperity and improve the quality of life for Village residents by identifying and pursuing state and federal funding for economic development, recreation, housing, public facilities, infrastructure and community planning projects.  We work with the community to improve social and economic conditions to create a dynamic, prosperous and livable village.

Economic Development

Working with various local organizations, the Department provides business relocation and expansion assistance and implements the Saranac Lake Region Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. The Department is responsible for identifying and seeking grant funds from private, local and federal sources and administering grants that are received.

Advisory Boards

The Community Development Department provides staff support to the  Downtown Advisory Board (DAB), Parks & Trails Advisory Board (PTAB), and Arts & Culture Advisory Board.

Projects

The Community Development Department plans, develops, and implements programs and activities that meet identified needs in the community. The Department is responsible for identifying and seeking grant funds from private, local and federal sources and administering grants that are received.

Saranac Lake is designated as a Silver-Level community due to the impressive levels of walking and excellent planning efforts. Saranac Lake is a very walkable community and most errands can be accomplished on foot. A walk through the Village provides beautiful lake and river views, historic architecture, parks for refuge and recreation, and many dining and shopping possibilities. Learn more.

The Saranac Lake Access for Everyone Grant Fund is available to business and property owners to make accessibility improvements.  Find the application and program rules here.

 

Positions are now open for a two-year, volunteer term on SLACAB.
