The Village of Saranac Lake’s Department of Public Works (DPW) works hard every day to keep our community running smoothly. From maintaining 24 miles of roads and 34 miles of sidewalks to caring for our parks, water and sewer systems, and municipal buildings — they’re the team behind the scenes making it all happen.
What We Do
Public Works is responsible for taking care of our public streets, stormwater drainage, and sanitary sewer systems. They also handle road repair and construction, park upkeep, community beautification, and the maintenance of all Village-owned vehicles.

On Street Parking
The Village of Saranac Lake follows a seasonal schedule:
The Parking Ban states that all vehicles must be parked off of the street from 2:00AM to 6:00AM.
Any vehicles found in violation of this will be ticketed and towed.
This is in accordance with Village law §276-4 Parking.
Village Compost Site
The Village of Saranac Lake offers free compost disposal for Village residents at our Compost Site, located at the DPW Garage (95 Van Buren St). This is a great resource for getting rid of natural yard waste such as leaves and brush.v
To access the compost site:

You must be a resident of the Village of Saranac Lake

You’ll need to obtain a compost permit from the Village Offices by providing proof of residency or complete the Compost Permit Application and return it to the Village Office's to obtain a sticker for your vehicle.

Only small debris such as leaves and small branches are accepted
