About
The Village of Saranac Lake operates under the Council-Manager form of government, as recognized by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). This form of local government combines policy leadership from our elected Village Board with the professional experience of an appointed Village Manager.
Under this form of government, the elected body hires a professional manager to implement its policies. Ultimately, the Manager serves at the pleasure of the Board and their duties include:
- Preparing the annual budget;
- Overseeing day-to-day operations in the Village’s departments;
- Recruiting, hiring, and supervising Village staff;
- And implementing policies of the Board of Trustees.
