Ride Subsidy Pilot Program

SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. – Beginning, October 2, 2023, the Village of Saranac Lake is introducing a Pilot Program that will subsidize transportation to explore the level of demand Village residents have for more affordable and accessible transportation. 

To start, residents of the Village of Saranac Lake qualifying as low-income and those over the age of 60 will submit applications to the Village Clerk for review.  Once approved, applicants will receive a Voucher to apply to 50% of their rides on a Monthly basis.  The Pilot Program will help determine the limit of rides per month the Village will be able to subsidize per applicant based on the distance traveled and frequency of rides requested.

The Village budgeted $20,000 into its 2023-2024 Fiscal Year Budget to fund the Pilot Program and plans to explore any and all additional funding opportunities that become available after the Pilot Program period is over.

In addition to assisting those needing financial assistance and easier access to transportation, the Village of Saranac Lake hopes to also attract more transportation services and Uber Drivers to give the general public of the surrounding area more options as well.
