COVID-19 UPDATE

Malone, NY – Franklin County Public Health is reporting that as of this release there are 8 individuals with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Franklin County.  There are an additional 67 individuals quarantined/isolated awaiting test results and 111 tests that have been returned negative. The Franklin County Department of Public Health is conducting follow-up investigations to determine where and when these people may have been exposed, and where and who they may have come in contact with recently. Everyone should assume COVID-19 is in their community and stay home, avoid contact with others and practice the recommended sanitary procedures and social distancing. There is no doubt that there will be an increase in positive tests and quarantines. The best way to avoid contracting COVID -19 is to reduce contact with other people and stay home. Practice social distancing anytime you are away from home and travel only for essential items. If you are ill, and must go out, it is highly recommended that you follow all precautions and wear a mask. Cotton masks have limitations regarding the spread of COVID-19. Do not assume that a cotton mask will shield you from COVID-19, and follow all additional safety protocols. It is important that anyone that feels ill should wear a mask or face covering in public and that healthy individuals who choose to wear a cotton mask may not be preventing exposure to COVID -19.

If you are a retailer, it is strongly recommended that you use hand sanitizer after each transaction and that you disinfect the area as frequently as possible.  If disinfectant wipes are unavailable, they can be substituted with a mixture of bleach and water.  A mixture of 1/3 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water, or alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol will adequately disinfect surfaces that may be contaminated.   

• Wash your hands often and for at least 20 seconds
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
• Avoid physical contact like handshakes and hugs
• Abstain from unnecessary travel
• Stay home (stay unexposed and do not expose others)
• Only go out for essential services
• Stay six feet or more away from others
• Don’t gather in groups

• Franklin County Office for the Aging is delivering meals to any Franklin County resident 60 years of age or older.  If you would like to participate please contact OFA @ 518-481-1526
• Franklin County Department of Social Services is operational.  Anyone needing Temporary Assistance, financial aid or has an unmet need (food, fuel, repairs,etc.) is asked to call 518-481-1894 or 518-481-1806 to speak with a case worker.

• Franklin County is strongly recommending that any traveler who is coming to the North Country self-quarantine/isolate for 14 days. Per the Executive order, STAY AT HOME.

Everyone is encouraged to follow the CDC and Public Health guidelines to avoid exposure to COVID-19. Please limit your exposure to others and STAY HOME.
